Description
The Hohrain or “high slope”, like the Pfersigberg, consists of conglomeratic limestone from the Jurassic periods. It is located on the same hillside as this Grand Cru, but on its northeastern slope. This cooler situation makes it a truly ideal terroir for this precocious grape variety, as ripening is slower and acids are better preserved.
Tasting Notes :
The Pinot Gris is shown in an elegant golden colour and develops an intense and complex bouquet of ripe fruit, honey, undergrowth and smoke. The palate is powerful, dense, fleshy, fruity, with a beautiful mineral structure in the background bringing a necessary liveliness. Five to ten years of ageing should be considered to taste this wine at its optimum.
