Description
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, or simply ‘DRC’, is undoubtedly the most prestigious wine producer in Burgundy. The famous estate is co-owned by the Villaine and Leroy families and produces only Grand Cru wines. Historically, Montrachet has been the only white wine produced, but in 2018, DRC began farming a 2.9-hectare parcel of Corton-Charlemagne in the communes of Aloxe-Corton and Pernand-Vergelesses leased from Domaine Bonneau du Martray. The 2019 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is the debut release of this new cuvée from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. This 100% Chardonnay has been agede for 18-20 months in French oak barrels, partially new, adding complexity and delicate spicy notes without overpowering the purity of the fruit. The wine is bottled without filtration to maintain its aromatic and structural integrity.
Tasting Notes :
Unfurling in the glass with aromas of citrus zest, pear and preserved peaches mingled with wheat toast, sesame oil, vanilla pod, beeswax and smoke, it’s full-bodied, rich and textural, with a ripe, enveloping core of fruit that’s framed by lively acids and chalky structuring extract. Concluding with a long, saline finish, it reflects the domaine’s vision for Chardonnay—picked at full maturity, in a powerful, gastronomic style—while remaining more tightly coiled and mineral in style than its Montrachet stablemate.
