Description
The Hetszolo estate, now owned by the legendary Cos d’Estournel, was meticulously created by its founders in 1502 from the region’s seven most outstanding plots, hence the name Hét Szölö, or “seven plots of vineyard” in Hungarian. Previous owners include the highly prestigious House of Habsburg: Tokaj-Hétszölö became a Royal Imperial Estate in 1711 before being recognized as a premier grand cru some years later. Against all odds, the estate remained the property of the Austro-Hungarian Empire for nearly two centuries. After some upheaval in the twentieth century, Tokaj-Hétszölö was acquired by Michel Reybier in 2009. 55 hectares became organic certified in 2015 and in order to offer the highest quality, they only work with own grapes. The mention “6 Puttonyos” indicates one of the highest degrees of richness, residual sugar and concentration in the entire appellation. The pickers meticulously sort, grain by grain and in several passes, the berries candied by the sun and autumn mists. The extremely rich must thus obtained ferments very slowly before being aged for several years in vast underground cellars dug into the volcanic tuff, giving the wine an extraordinary patina and aromatic complexity.
Tasting Note :
In the glass, it is a real dazzle: an intense gold colour with shimmering reflections. The palate is sumptuous, offering a syrupy texture that coats the palate, perfectly counterbalanced by the legendary acid tension of the volcanic terroir of Tokaj. It is a true symphony of exotic flavors and sweet spices, an immortal wine for aging that can gracefully cross the decades, offering every sip a moment of pure emotion.
