Description
Sassicaia is the original Bolgheri Super Tuscan and now even has its own DOC. The wine is named after the stony soil which it comes from, by its nature, is destined to go far. The wine blend is 85% Cabernet Sauvignon 15% Cabernet Franc. At the end of the malolactic fermentation, the wine is placed in French oak barrels, (2/3rds new wood and the rest, first and second passage) where it spent a period of aging of 24 months.
Tasting Notes:
The fruit balance is ideal with a hint of crunch and lasting tension from the tannins with firm grip and enough velvetiness to add volume and length. The bouquet offers mulled cinnamon and clove, layered between redcurrant, blueberry, sweet pomegranate and red cherry. The oak tones are geared toward gingerbread, hazelnut, cigar, sandalwood and grilled sweet red pepper. To the palate, it offers nice weight and a rinse of acidity that adds to the wine’s natural energy, brightness and viscosity. A wine with long aging potential.
