Description
Olivier Bernard describes 2020 as the “most powerful vintage” ever recorded at Domaine de Chevalier. It started early and finished early and due to the droughts in July and September, they harvested berries with very thick skins and little juice. The UGC sample was very lovely and ranked as one of the best wines on show. The 2020 Domaine de Chevalier Rouge is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, and 5% Cabernet Franc aged in 35% new oak for 16 to 20 months with 4 months of consistent stirring of lees.
Tasting Notes :
The wine reveals deep dark red color with intense and distinctive nose. Flowery expression mainly on the fruit; Black cherry, blackcurrant, blueberry follow by fine peppery and vanilla spices. Aromas of cigar box and slightly peaty earth in the end. On the palate shows impressive sensation of density, fleshy tannins and contained power. The texture of the wine is fine, firm, fresh and fruity. The high-class tannins recall the earthy and peaty flavor of great vintages to keep. The fruit is intense in power and balance with a long finish. Everything is there for a great vintage to keep.
