Description
Located in the Moulis appellation, in the heart of the Médoc, Château Chasse-Spleen was founded in 1720. Its name “Chasse-Spleen” acquired in 1863, is inspired by Anglo-Saxon culture and Baudelaire. The blend for the 2021 vintage is 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot and 9% Petit Verdot. The grapes are vinified in a combination of various containers, both steel and wood, and then carry out the malolactic fermentation only in steel. Subsequently, the aging of the assembled wine takes place in French oak barrels (new wood 40%) for 12 to 15 months.
Tasting Notes :
The nose opens with refreshing red fruit, mint, mixed spice and floral (lime blossom) fragrances. The bouquet becomes more complex when aerated and reveals delicious aromas of blackcurrant and morello cherry, sustained by a subtle minerality. A bold attack precedes a palate that harmoniously combines suppleness and power with very fine, even chalky tannins. The finish is enticingly lingering and rich.
