Description

On the old engraving that illustrates the label of the Cuvée 1522, we can recognize the village of Ay, cradle of the Philipponnat family for sixteen generations. This exceptional cuvée is made exclusively from the House’s most remarkable vineyards and grapes, and particularly from its historic plots of “Léon” in Ay, which give it its fullness, minerality and typical peppery and spicy notes. The cuvée consists of 72% Pinot Noir from their historic vineyard of “Léon” in Ay and 28% Chardonnay from the village of Oger. A proportion of the wines are vinified in wood (26%). Another part of the wines does not undergo malolactic fermentation to preserve all the freshness of the wine and allow it to gain in complexity. An eight-year ageing period on lees magnifies this cuvée while retaining its original freshness.

Tasting Notes :
The Cuvée 1522 has a rich and captivating nose, which blossoms with aromas of lightly toasted brioche, vanilla and crème brûlée. With aeration, subtle minty nuances delicately complete the bouquet. The palate is generous and creamy, revealing notes of pastry accompanied by a touch of candied citrus. The finish being long and greedy, is distinguished by a delicate spicy note of white pepper, signature of this cuvée and of the terroir of Ay.
